Broadening Participation
and Access in
Education Research
Ripple Effect conducted a comprehensive landscape analysis to support efforts to broaden participation in education research grants. We assessed outreach practices at comparable federal agencies, documenting their approaches, policies, and infrastructure, as well as challenges and lessons learned. Our team completed interviews, a literature review, and an environmental scan, and then synthesized findings into a set of strategic recommendations, including a SWOT analysis. These resources supported more effective outreach and helped shape future strategies for enhancing education research programs.
Our Goal
Inform strategies to expand applicant outreach and improve access to federally funded education research programs.
Our Path to Success
We translated a complex body of research into actionable insights to guide future program direction. Across all of the research, we identified six key themes for broadening participation in education research grant programs. Our recommendations provided the agency with practical, evidence-informed strategies for expanding the reach and impact of its research and training programs. By benchmarking peer agency practices and identifying scalable improvements, we offered clear pathways for enhancing outreach, simplifying access, and improving applicant support across the program’s lifecycle.
